Where good food and great memories are made!
Originally established in 1957 as the Teahouse of the Blue Lagoon, we became what is now known as The Waffle House, in 1991. This was based on the success of the original Waffle House which started in Norwich, England in 1978.

what is a waffle . . .
A waffle is a light type of pastry cooked between two buttered and heated plates of waffle irons. The plates have embossed patterns and are hinged together on one side. Waffles originated in Europe and are mentioned in poems dating back to the twelfth century when they were made and sold in the streets on great religious feast days. These old waffle irons were often very ornately embossed with family crests and other patterns and were heated over an open fire. Today we use thermostatically controlled electric waffle irons from Belgium, which are certainly more efficient, but not as much fun!
‘Farm to Fork’ is a movement that supports local organic farmers who follow environmentally sustainable practices, while keeping a low carbon footprint.
This starts with our own farm, Nemvelo, where we produce hand-picked organic vegetables, fruits and nuts. We also produce hormone-free, pasture-raised chickens. All these nutrient-filled products are used in our restaurant dishes, as well as products available in our Deli.
We also support local organic community farms as much as possible. Added to this, we use only stoneground flour and real butter in our waffles. Dishes are additive and colourant free, while still tasting delicious and flavorful.
As part of our ongoing commitment to the environment, we recycle all raw produce peels and offcuts, as well as eggshells from the restaurant to make our own organic compost at the farm. We also recycle all our glass, plastic, tins and paper from the restaurant. And our take-away packaging is bio-degradable, as are the cleaning chemicals we use.
