Minister of Tourism launches blue flag season

Crashing waves, beautiful marine life, the fresh salty breeze and unique plant life are just some of the things that the ocean gives us every day. Since 1988, the government has been driving awareness around the coastal environment in SA and what we can do to conserve it. South Africa’s  National Marine Week took  place from 7-11 October and In keeping with this theme, Minister of Tourism, Mr Marthinus van Schalkwyk, launched the new Blue Flag season in Ramsgate on the 8th of October.

“The South Coast is a very special jewel in the crown of KwaZulu-Natal. This is indeed a fitting venue for the event given that the KZN South Coast is the stronghold of the Blue Flag programme in the province” the minister said.

National Marine Week emphasises how the ocean creates employment opportunities, supports different ecosystems and is a source of food for people all over the country and by not taking care of it we are putting all of this at risk. The Waffle House in Ramsgate is lucky enough to be situated right by the sea and would like to invite everyone to spend some time appreciating all that the ocean gives us on a daily basis. Come and enjoy a waffle with your family and educate your kids on the wonders of the ocean and why we should always take great care of it so that future generations can enjoy and benefit from it.
